More than two years after her White Collar co-star Willie Garson passed away from pancreatic cancer, Hilarie Burton is paying tribute to him.

The One Tree Hill alum, 41, broke down in tears on Thursday's edition of The View.

Oh, I'm going to weep, she said, "He taught me so much and was always my biggest cheerleader.

She said, "Of course, I had no idea that we would lose him when I started writing the book, Grimoire Girl: Creating an Inheritance of Magic and Mischief.

But because he is mentioned in my grimoire, being able to memorialize him in this manner felt particularly significant. Because of that effect, I am unique.

Burton added that she and Garson became friends while filming their USA Network drama because they were both new parents.

With her husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan, the actress has two children together: Augustus, 13, and George, 5. In 2010, Garson adopted Nathen, now 22.

My son was three months old when I met Willie. We were both new parents when I started working with him because he had recently adopted a son, she said.
